The Australia and Queensland star was handed a grade-two dangerous contact charge for the tackle during the Storm's 28-14 win over the Gold Coast Titans.
Smith opted against risking a two-match ban, instead choosing to miss Melbourne's round 11 match against the Sea Eagles on Saturday.
Sam Kasiano (dangerous contact) is also sidelined for the clash, while Josh Addo-Carr and Cameron Munster accepted pleas but are free to play.
