Stephen Curry sizes up girl's shoe issue, offers a fitting response

The backstory (per Teen Vogue): Riley Morrison, 9, needed new shoes for the new season. However, the lack of options for girls frustrated her, particularly when it came to her sneakers of choice: Under Armour's Curry 5s. So she wrote a letter to Curry, asking him why his new namesake-model shoes are available only in boys' and mens' sizes on UA's website.

"I wanted to write the letter because it seems unfair that the shoes are only in the boys’ section and not in the girls’ section,” Riley told Teen Vogue. “I wanted to help make things equal for all girls, because girls play basketball, too.”

In the letter — tweeted by Vox Media's Liz Plank with a "hey @stephencurry30 can u help? — Riley points out the problem, then makes a final appeal.

“I know you support girl athletes because you have two daughters and you host an all girls basketball camp,” she wrote, in part. “I hope you can work with Under Armour to change this because girls want to rock the Curry 5s too.”

Curry is, in fact, a big advocate for women's rights. He penned a wide-ranging essay in August for The Players' Tribune about what it's like to raise two young daughters under the headline, "This is personal."

So Riley's message apparently rang true with the Warriors star.

On Thursday, he tweeted a handwritten response to the youngster, not only saying that he'd spent the past two days getting the Under Armour website issue updated (“Unfortunately, we have labeled smaller sizes as ‘boys’ on the website. We are correcting this now!”), but also going on to write that he’s sending Riley a pair of Curry 5s and hooking her up as “one of the first kids to get the Curry 6.”

But wait. There’s more.

“Lastly, we have something special in the works for International Women’s Day on March 8th," Curry wrote, "and I want you to celebrate with me! More to come on that, but plan to be in Oakland that night.”
