St Helens overcame the second-half dismissal of Morgan Knowles to make it two wins out of two in Super League with a 21-12 victory over Catalans Dragons in Perpignan.

Knowles was sent off in the 52nd minute of Saturday's match for a dangerous tackle on Thibaud Margalet, which saw the Catalans player lifted and driven head-first towards the ground.

At that point, Saints led by only six points, but Adam Swift eased their nerves by scoring with the Dragons' Benjamin Jullien in the sin bin.

And although Alrix Da Costa's try again got Catalans back within a converted score, Danny Richardson followed up three earlier conversions by landing a drop goal and a penalty late on to secure victory for Saints.

Full-back Ben Barba had played a starring role in the first half, setting up tries for Jonny Lomax and Regan Grace, while David Mead reduced Catalans' arrears prior to Knowles' red card.

Earlier on Saturday, Wigan Warriors beat Hull FC 24-10 in Wollongong, Liam Marshall scoring two tries in the first Super League match to be played outside Europe.
