Orlando Magic have announced the appointment of Steve Clifford as their new head coach.

The former Charlotte Hornets boss will succeed Frank Vogel and has reportedly signed a four-year contract at Amway Center.

Clifford, who was an assistant in Orlando under Stan Van Gundy between 2007 and 2012, had a regular-season record of 196-214 in five campaigns with Charlotte and made the playoffs twice before being fired this offseason.

Orlando sacked Vogel in April after the Magic finished a disappointing 25-57 season.

"We are very excited to welcome Steve back into the Magic family," Orlando president of basketball operations Jeff Weltman said.

"Steve is widely regarded throughout the NBA community as an elite coach and developer of players at all stages.

"His teams have always been disciplined and prepared, and have embraced the concept of playing for each other."
