Racism is one of the biggest threats to international peace and unity.

With the global COVID-19 pandemic on the rise, many individuals worldwide have unfortunately been a target of racism, prejudice, and xenophobia.

Westerners in Asia have felt it, and on the other spectrum, Asians living abroad face a similar crisis.

Thankfully, in the world we live in today, many key figures, celebrities, individuals, and organizations have joined the battle against this global issue.

ONE Championship is no different.

The promotion’s values are symmetrical with ONE Championship Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong’s belief on the subject.

In an older Facebook post, Sityodtong revealed that he was forced to fire a high-performing employee for racism at one of his companies, adding that he had zero-tolerance for racism.

Malaysian athletes like Keanu Subba and Agilan “Alligator” Thani have also had their fair share on the subject.

Growing up, Subba revealed that he was one of the few mixed-race kids in a Chinese school, and that meant he had to deal with tons of racism.

“I didn’t feel comfortable because the kids and even teachers were making fun of me because of [my mixed race], and I wasn’t happy about it,” he said.

“I just knew that I was different, and I had to accept myself for who I am and just live on.”

Atomweight contender Jihin “Shadow Cat” Radzuan is another strong advocate of unity, stating in a previous interview that she does not believe in racism because her fans come from all walks of life.

Other mixed-race athletes have faced a hurdle similar to Subba’s, and ONE Championship’s latest video titled #WeAreONE Against Racism offers a short yet meaningful message.

The 38-second video featuring Alain Ngalani, Martin Nguyen, Regian Eersel, Gurdarshan Mangat, Giorgio Petrosyan, Janet Todd, Christian Lee, and Bi Nguyen ends with a powerful message: “No country has a face. No virus has a race. End the hate. End racism.”

It serves as a reminder that no matter where we come from, regardless of race and religion, we are similarly trying to win the battle against discrimination and COVID-19.
