For most martial artists, competing and coaching is their bread and butter.
Unfortunately, none of this has been possible during the COVID-19 pandemic, and many have started to feel the pinch of the global crisis.

However, some of ONE Championship’s finest warriors have overcome adversity to reach the level they are on today, and they have taken it upon themselves to practice with the same intensity at home or coach online for income.
Malaysia’s Mohammed “Jordan Boy” Bin Mahmoud reveals that he was forced to switch his training methods and believes it will carry on for at least another year or so.
“With a lot of us unable to train or compete, we have to find other ways to generate income. There is no denying that our lives will change during and after the crisis, but at the end of the day, it’ll only be for the good of us all,” the Kuala Lumpur-based athlete said.
“I believe life will be different for everyone directly or indirectly affected by it.”
Evolve MMA’s multiple-time Indonesian National Wrestling Champion Eko Roni Saputra shared the same belief.
Although online classes do not have quite the same feel, the flyweight mixed martial artist is thankful for the tools present today.
“Luckily, we live in an era where technology is advanced, so there are many things that we can do remotely,” he said.
“This situation teaches us to be more efficient, too. I’ll definitely connect with my big family and extended relatives more frequently, particularly because now I live in a different country.”
Training and technology aside, Legacy Fighting Alliance Featherweight Champion Thanh Le added that the biggest takeaway from this global pandemic is that hygiene should not be taken lightly.
“Overall, I think it has educated people on how to be more sanitary and how being in overall good health is a huge deal when things like this pop up. It could really change the way people approach their health and will drive people to take better care of themselves.”
