Oilers' Patrick Maroon suspended for illegal hit on Drew Doughty
Oilers forward Patrick Maroon has been suspended two games for interference on Drew Doughty, the league announced Wednesday.
Maroon hit Doughty in the head with his shoulder late in the second period of Edmonton's 5-0 loss on Tuesday. Doughty, a Kings defenseman was behind his own net, when Maroon hit him.
Doughty's teammate, Derek Forbort stepped in to fight Maroon, who was given a game misconduct penalty and a fighting major.
Doughty briefly left the game but wasn't upset with Maroon.
"I’ve known Maroon for a long time," Doughty told reporters. "He’s just trying to finish a hit. I don’t know that he meant to try and hurt me. I forgive him."
