NBA free agency rumors: Warriors, 4 others will be interested in Wesley Matthews if he receives buyout
Wesley Matthews could have multiple options if he reaches free agency.
At least five contenders, including the Warriors, Rockets, Thunder, Raptors and 76ers are expected to be interested in signing the 32-year-old free agent if he receives a buyout from the Knicks, according to The New York Times’ Marc Stein.
Matthews was sent to New York from the Mavericks last week as part of the Kristaps Porzingis trade. He’s in the final season of the four-year, $64 million deal he signed with Dallas in July 2015.
The Knicks are exploring the trade market for Wes Matthews before Thursday's 3 PM deadline, league sources say, but there are also several antsy suitors hoping Matthews makes it to the buyout market. Matthews scored five points on 2-of-8 shooting in his debut for the Knicks on Sunday in their loss the Grizzlies.
The 10-year veteran is averaging 13.1 points and 2.3 assists in 29.8 minutes per game this season. He’s shooting 41.4 percent from the field and 38 percent from 3-point range.
The Knicks have been one of the worst teams in the NBA this season and will enter their game against the Pistons on Tuesday with a 10-42 record.
