Selangor and Pahang continued their winning starts to the 2019 Malaysia Premier Futsal League (MPFL) season as they beat Melaka and KL City respectively on Wednesday.
Melaka, who were the last winners of the now-defunct National Futsal League and just returned from their AFF Futsal Cup sojourn in Thailand, were unable to contain the in-form league leaders Selangor, who thrashed Perak 5-0 last weekend, at the Panasonic Shah Alam Sports Complex.
The Red Giants raced to a 2-0 lead in the first seven minutes through goals from Syed Aizad and Azri Rahman before Najmi Rosli pulled one back for the Hang Tuah squad.
Shamsul Akmar struck late in the second half to clinch a 3-1 win for Selangor and maintain their position at the top of the league.
Pahang kept pace with Selangor on the league standings with a 4-3 win over KL City at the SUKPA Indoor Stadium in Kuantan.
Saiful Nizam and Haniffa Hassan scored for Pahang to erase KL City's early 2-0 lead, which was thanks to goals from Addli Che Husin and K. Yakish Rao.
Haziq Adnan put the Kuala Lumpur side ahead again in the 26th minute, but Saiful equalised for Pahang again in the 33rd minute before completing his hat-trick with a winning goal in the final minute.
Meanwhile in Ipoh, Perak let a three-goal lead slip to draw 3-3 with Kedah.
Awalluddin Nawi's brace and Aidil Shahril's strike were seemingly enough to seal the win, but bad mistakes allowed Shahmi Sani, Anwar Osman and Farith Ahmad to scire and bag an unlikely draw for the Red Eagles.
There was also a 3-3 draw in Penang, with the hosts escaping with a point against Kuala Lumpur as they fought back from 3-1 down in the first half.
