A century from Kusal Mendis earned Sri Lanka victory in their third ODI against Bangladesh.

Kusal Mendis (124) and Charith Asalanka (58) helped Sri Lanka post a total of 285 before a well-rounded bowling performance saw them win by 99 runs, and clinch the series 2-1.

Pathum Nissanka (35) and Kamindu Mendis (16) failed to build on their starts, but Kusal Mendis and Asalanka formed a fierce partnership to steer the hosts into a strong position.

Just a day after Sri Lanka’s batting coach Thilina Kandamby challenged Kusal Mendis to score more hundreds, the batter hung around until the 46th over before being caught and bowled by Shamim Hossain (1-30).

The Sri Lankan bowlers picked up wickets at regular intervals during Bangladesh's chase, with seamers Asitha Fernando (3-33) and Dushmantha Chameera (3-51) leading the charge.

Towhid Hridoy (51) was the top scorer for Bangladesh, but he could do little to prevent the tourists being skittled out for just 186.

Data Debrief: More Pallekele joy for Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka have now won nine of their last 10 ODIs at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium (L1), but this was the first time in five wins that they achieved victory after batting first.

Kusal Mendis won both Player of the Match and Player of the Series. He scored a total of 225 runs across the three matches, including one century and one fifty.

Sri Lanka also ensured they avoided back-to-back home ODI defeats. The last time they lost two 50-over matches on home soil came in November 2022.
