McIlroy content with showing at Genesis Invitational as Scheffler remains in touch

Rory McIlroy does not believe he truly capitalised on some great opportunities at the Genesis Invitational but is happy with his performance over the first two rounds.
McIlroy is three shots back from leader Davis Thompson at the halfway stage at Torrey Pines.
The Northern Irishman carded 67 in his second round on Friday to sit in fourth on the leaderboard.

Four birdies across his opening nine holes teed him up nicely at the turn, but McIlroy stalled with two bogeys after that.
"I hit a lot of really good shots. I played well for the most part. I scrambled well," said McIlroy.
"I just didn't take advantage of the par fives. I made up for it in other places, which was nice.
"But I know going into the weekend I'm going to have to play the par fives better."
Ahead of McIlroy in third is Denny McCarthy, who is one shot back from world number one Scottie Scheffler.

Scheffler, though, was not impressed with his driving, as he managed to land on the fairway on only five occasions.
"I'm definitely going to try to be in the fairway a bit more," he said.
"I felt I survived without driving the ball very well and I'm going to need to drive it better over the last couple of days."
