Marcus Smart on pending free agency: ‘I’m worth more than $12-14 million’
Marcus Smart thinks he deserves a big contract this summer.
The 24-year-old Celtics guard will be a restricted free agent this offseason after averaging 10.2 points and 4.8 assists per game in 2017-18. Smart reportedly will be seeking a contract that will pay him between $12 million and $14 million per season.
But Smart said Sunday he believes he should make more than that.

"To be honest, I'm worth more than $12-14 million," Smart said to ESPN. "Just for the things I do on the court that don't show up on the stat sheet. You don't find guys like that. I always leave everything on the court, every game. Tell me how many other players can say that."
LeBron James scored 35 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to lead the Cavaliers to a 87-79 win over the Celtics in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals. Smart said after the game that he wasn’t thinking about his impending free agency.
"I don't know (if they'll pay me),” Smart said. “We'll find out sooner than later."
