Mancuso dons Wonder Woman costume for final run
Julia Mancuso marked her retirement by completing her final run in a Wonder Woman costume in Cortina d'Ampezzo on Friday.
The most decorated US Olympic female alpine athlete, Mancuso graced the podium in 36 of her 399 FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup outings, whilst also claiming four Olympic and five World Championship medals during her career.
Hip problems prevented Mancuso from qualifying for a fifth Games, prompting the 33-year-old to announce her retirement at the venue of her maiden World Cup podium in 2006.
Mancuso, whose run was accompanied by the Wonder Woman theme tune through the public address system, finished last of those who completed the course.
Sofia Goggia edged another US skiing legend in Lindsey Vonn to win the ladies' downhill race.
Vonn led both training runs heading into Friday's action but had to settle for second after surviving a near crash, finishing 0.47 seconds behind Goggia.
Mikaela Shiffrin was a further 0.37 seconds further back in third,
Aksel Lund Svindal closed the gap on Kjetil Jansrud at the top of the men's super-G standings by beating his fellow Norwegian into second place in Kitzbuhel on Friday.
Heavy snowfall delayed the race by 90 minutes but Svindal outpaced his compatriot by half a second on a shortened course, having trailed until around the midway point.
The 2010 Olympic gold medallist is now 46 points adrift of Jansrud thanks to his first podium finish of the season in the discipline, while Olympic downhill champion Matthias Mayer was third.
