The Malaysia girls’ team lost a thrilling match to Indonesia to finish runners-up at the 3x3 U18 Asia Cup 2017 on Sunday.

Despite being seeded 13th at the 16-team tournament, the girls’ team consisting of Yap Siew Hong, Lim Jing Zhe, Foo Suet Ying and Chow Pui Yee defied expectations to reach the final, where they lost 6-13.

They started off with a 9-11 loss to Kazakhstan but bounced back to beat Sri Lanka 18-10, Japan 11-8 and Singapore 12-10 en route to the final.

In doing so, they improved on last year's performance, where they finished third.

On top of that, 16-year-old Foo finished as the third highest scorer with 35 points from five games, behind only Lebanon's Dima Chahine (39) and China's Yuan Zihui (36).

Meanwhile, the Malaysia boys’ team reached the quarter-final stage, where they lost 11-22 to Lebanon.

The boys’ final was eventually won by China, who beat Chinese Taipei 17-12.
