Louisville athletic director Tom Jurich said he had no idea head basketball coach Rick Pitino was the now-infamous 'Coach 2' in the FBI probe that revealed a pay-for-play scandal that has rocked the NCAA.
In his first public statement since it was revealed that Louisville was suspected of giving basketball recruit Brian Bowen $100,000 to come to the school, Jurich said if he had been told Pitino was 'Coach 2' he would have fired him.

“The idea that I would turn a blind eye toward blatant violations of NCAA rules is preposterous," Jurich told Louisville television station WDRB. "No information was presented to me naming Rick Pitino as 'Coach-2' in the FBI affidavit. If I had evidence that any coach or athletic department personnel ever willfully violated NCAA rules they would be immediately dismissed. But, I have never been presented with that information."
"Coach 2" was identified in the FBI probe as a big player in a school that allegedly would make sure that his players got paid for coming to the university. One AAU coach caught up in a scheme allegedly said that "all [Coach-2] has to do is pick up the phone and call somebody [and say], 'These are my guys; they're taking care of us.'"
