Kisner wins record-tying six-man play-off at Wyndham Championship

Kevin Kisner captured the Wyndham Championship title after prevailing in a record-equalling six-man play-off.

After shooting a 66, Kisner was among six players to take part in sudden death at Sedgefield Country Club after Kevin Na (66), Branden Grace (66), Kim Si-woo (64), Adam Scott (65) and Roger Sloan (66) also finished 15 under in regulation.

It was the most players in a PGA Tour play-off since the 2001 Genesis Invitational and 1994 AT&T Byron Nelson.

In the play-off, American golfer Kisner birdied his second additional hole for his fourth PGA Tour title and first since the 2019 WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play.

Kisner had been 0-5 in play-offs entering Sunday's showdown in Greensboro, North Carolina – where Scott, Sloan and Kim were eliminated after the first hole.

"It's a fickle, crazy game that we play," Kisner said at the end of the regular-season finale, with the FedEx Cup play-offs due to begin via The Northern Trust on August 22.

"The line is so thin between reward, success and jubilation, to just being distraught leaving here. It's just a crazy wave of emotions."

Kisner has never represented the United States at the Ryder Cup, but the 37-year-old is hopeful he has catapulted himself into contention.

"Who knows, man?'' Kisner said. "I've never been picked before, so I'm not going to go out there and jump on a limb and say that I'm going to get picked this year.

"I love [Captain Steve] Stricker, he's a great friend and great guy. He'll do what's best for the team and the country.''

Russell Henley led after the first three rounds, but he ended the tournament a stroke off the pace following his one-over-par 71.

Former world number one Justin Rose (67) was among five players a shot further back at 13 under as he failed to qualify for the FedEx Cup play-offs, slipping to 126th in the standings with the top 125 featuring.
