Tom Johnstone scored a hat-trick as a dominant second-half display saw Wakefield Trinity thump Hull KR 54-18 at Belle Vue on Sunday.

After a fairly even first half, Johnstone ran in two of Wakefield's six tries in the second period as they bounced back from successive away defeats in Super League.

Matty Ashurst got the opener and Jacob Miller set Johnstone in for his first in the 11th minute, but Chris Clarkson and Adam Quinlan restored parity before the half-hour mark.

Tyler Randell ensured Trinity went into half-time ahead and there was no looking back for Chris Chester's side.

Ben Jones-Bishop ran the length of the field to add to the first of Scott Grix's double, with Johnstone completing his hat-trick after another fine pass from Miller three minutes from time.

The winger's third effort came after Anthony England crossed to cancel out Kieren Moss' effort for Rovers.
