Jamal Adams rips Jets HC Adam Gase and GM Joe Douglas

Jamal Adams' frustration at not getting a new contract has continued, with the New York Jets safety turning his ire on his own head coach and general manager.

The 24-year-old has made no secret of his desire to earn a deal befitting his first three years in the NFL, which have included two Pro Bowl nods and a first-team All-Pro selection, and last month he requested a trade having become disillusioned by the lack of progress on contract talks with the Jets.

Adams has two years remaining on his rookie deal after the team exercised his fifth-year option, and GM Joe Douglas has previously expressed his wish to make the versatile defensive back "a Jet for life", but the player appears to be doing all he can to punch his ticket out of MetLife Stadium.

His latest tactic has been to blast head coach Adam Gase, who led the Jets to a 7-9 record in 2019 having been surprisingly appointed after being fired by the Miami Dolphins.

"I don't feel like he's the right leader for this organisation to reach the Promised Land," Adams told the New York Daily News.

"As a leader, what really bothers me is that he doesn't have a relationship with everybody in the building.

"At the end of the day, he doesn't address the team. If there's a problem in the locker room, he lets another coach address the team. If we're playing s***** and we're losing, he doesn't address the entire team as a group at half-time. He'll walk out of the locker room and let another coach handle it."

Adams was named an All-Pro last year after recording 6.5 sacks and returning an interception and a fumble for touchdowns.

Despite his stellar play, the offer Adams wants has not been forthcoming, which has been particularly frustrating to the safety given the previous noises Douglas has made about wanting to sign him to a long-term extension.

"Why would Joe come out and say, 'We want to make Jamal a Jet for life?'" Adams added.

"Why would you say that and then not even give me an offer? Don't B.S. me. I'm a straightforward guy. You don't have to B.S. me, because I'm going to keep it honest."

Adams stressed that he would not hold out in 2020 or skip training camp, acts that would cost him money and affect his free-agency options.

"I want to win," he said. "I want to be with an organisation that wants to win and do things the right way."
