Former Wales and Lions fly-half Dan Biggar to retire from rugby
Former Wales and British and Irish Lions fly-half Dan Biggar has announced that he will retire as a rugby player at the end of the 2024-25 season.
The 35-year-old won 112 caps for Wales and scored over 600 points for his country, with his final appearance for them coming in the 2023 Rugby World Cup.
He won the Six Nations three times, including a Grand Slam in 2019. He also made three Test appearances for the Lions in South Africa in 2021 having been on two tours.
Biggar will end his career at French side Toulon, having joined them from Northampton Saints in November 2022.
"There comes a point where you just know, not because of anything in particular, but someone once said to me 'when you know, you'll know'," said Biggar, as reported by BBC Sport.
"Rugby has given me everything. I threw myself into this game at 17 and it's given me a life that I could never have imagined.
"I've lived out my childhood dreams for the best part of two decades and I'm so, so grateful for that."
Biggar retires with the best goal-kicking success rate of any player in either the Men's Six Nations and Men's Rugby World Cup, among players to have played a minimum of 50 games.
His senior debut came in 2008 for Ospreys, and he went on to make 221 appearances for them over 11 years, scoring 2,203 points and winning two Pro12 titles in 2010 and 2012.
In 2018, he moved to Northampton and made 69 appearances in England, helping them win the Premiership Rugby Cup in 2019. Biggar then moved to Toulon four years later.
Reflecting on an impressive career, Biggar said that his first cap for Wales in 2008, becoming a Test centurion and playing for the Lions would all be moments he would never forget.
But he acknowledged that none of the above were his biggest achievements.
"The thing I'm most proud about is being able to give my family opportunities in life. That's what means the most to me and what I'm most proud of," he said.
"To my amazing wife Alex and my two beautiful boys I can't thank you enough for everything you've done for me. You were always there to pick me up when things were low and have been by my side through everything when I've needed it. I'm very lucky."
