Expulsion proposed for Minnesota center Reggie Lynch after sexual misconduct incidents
A committee investigating allegations of sexual misconduct against Minnesota Golden Gophers center Reggie Lynch has recommended he be expelled from the university, according to StarTribune.com.
Minnesota athletic director Mark Coyle had already suspended the 6-10 senior on Jan. 5, a day after a university investigation found him responsible for sexual misconduct in two incidents in April 2016. A third incident is also under investigation.
However, Lynch, a former Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year, is still practicing with the team. Coach Richard Pitino told the StarTribune he practiced with the team Monday.
“(Lynch) didn’t do much yesterday just because I’m more focused on the guys who are playing more than anything," Pitino said. “But he was there … It was more of a short (practice) because we’re so banged up right now, but he is there if need be with certain things.”
Lynch has appealed the findings from the two April 2016 incidents, the first of which he was arrested for. The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office did not press charges due to a lack of evidence.
A native of Edina, Minn., Lynch began his college career at Illinois State before transferring to Minnesota for the 2016-17 season. He is averaging 10.1 points and 8 rebounds per game this season.
