Eden hat-trick lifts Tigers as Trinity end losing run
Castleford Tigers claimed a 38-24 victory over Hull KR to end a five-match losing run in Super League, with Greg Eden starring against his former club.
Eden scored a hat-trick of tries on Thursday, with his first helping Castleford race into a 24-0 lead by the 25th minute.
Jacques O'Neill, Alex Foster, Adam Milner also crossed, with Hull KR responding through Robbie Mulhern, Elliot Minchella and Shaun Kenny-Dowall.
Yet Eden's second put Castleford into further control and though Matt Parcell went over to hand Rovers – whose coach Tony Smith is isolating for 14 days due to COVID-19 protocols – a glimmer of hope, their former player completed his hat-trick late in the match to wrap up the win.
In Thursday's other fixture, bottom side Wakefield Trinity finally ended their dismal run of defeats as they secured a dramatic 18-14 win over Huddersfield Giants.
Tom Johnstone scored a double, with his second try securing Wakefield's first win since the league's restart in August to relieve some of the mounting pressure on coach Chris Chester.
Wakefield, who had a try harshly disallowed moments earlier, struck in the closing minutes – Johnstone diving over in the corner, with the video referee allowing the try to stand after checking on a possible ball steel from Jacob Miller.
