Brodie Croft kicked a late field goal to secure a 13-12 ANZAC Day win for Melbourne Storm over New Zealand Warriors at AAMI Park.

Last year's Grand Final losers showed their character in bouncing back from a golden-point defeat to NRL champions Sydney Roosters last time out.

Croft's last-gasp kick saw Storm keep pace with the Roosters at the top of the table, their rivals having beaten St George Illawarra Dragons earlier on Thursday.

The Warriors, meanwhile, have now lost five of their opening seven games.

It was the visitors who started brightest, Adam Blair touching down after Chanel Harris-Tavita had opened the scoring with a penalty.

Cameron Munster's try reduced the deficit before the break, his up-and-under steered back into his path by Josh Addo-Carr.

And Melbourne were quickly into the action after the interval courtesy of Jahrome Hughes' converted score.

Ken Maumalo crossed the line at the end of a sweeping move to put the Warriors 12-10 up, but the home side levelled from a Munster penalty before Croft coolly split the posts three minutes from time.
