New South Wales captain Boyd Cordner has backed the Blues' 11 State of Origin debutants to shine against reigning champions Queensland.

A new-look Blues side will go head-to-head with the Maroons in the June 6 Origin opener after rookies Jack De Belin, Tom Trbojevic, Josh Addo-Carr, James Roberts, Latrell Mitchell, Nathan Cleary, Reagan Campbell-Gillard, Damien Cook, Tyrone Peachey, Paul Vaughan and Angus Crichton were included in the squad.

The only players to survive from last year's series defeat are Cordner, James Tedesco, James Maloney, Dave Klemmer, Tyson Frizell and Tom Trbojevic.

Blues head coach Brad Fittler is looking to snap Queensland's Origin dominance, which has seen the Maroons claim three successive series wins and 11 of the past 12, and Cordner believes the new and improved NSW can step up against their rivals.

"It's really exciting times to be in camp again, State of Origin is on again," Cordner told reporters on Tuesday.

"It's always a good time of year, a lot of fresh faces, it's a different feel.

"They've been playing some really good footy in the NRL and really deserve their spots. You look at the team and all the guys are in form and pick themselves. They'll be coming with plenty of energy and enthusiasm, it's putting it in all the right places."

Asked about the lack of Origin experience in the team, Cordner said: "If they go out and play the way they do for their clubs it shouldn't be an issue.

"They're just pumped to be here, everyone that's got an opportunity. They're not worried about what's happened in the past, they're happy to be here."
