George Burgess has been cited following an incident involving New Zealand captain Dallin Watene-Zelezniak during England's series-clinching victory at Anfield on Sunday.

The England prop's fingers appeared to make contact around the Kiwis skipper's right eye during the second half.

Watene-Zelezniak defended Burgess, saying he did not believe the forward caught him on purpose.

Burgess will face a disciplinary hearing on Tuesday to discover whether he will be available for the third and final match of the series at Elland Road on Sunday.

A match review panel ruled that the incident warranted a Grade D charge of behaviour contrary to the true spirit of the game.

The case will be heard by a three-man panel, including one representative each from England and New Zealand.

Watene-Zelezniak said after the match: "I felt a finger go in my eye but that's football.

"I have no idea [if it was an eye-gouge], I'll have to watch it back. He's a big boy with some big fingers so his hand on my face probably covers it all.

"I'm sure he didn't do it on purpose. He and his brothers are good guys and have done some really good things in the game. I don't think that's in their kit bag."
