Boston Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy underwent a successful procedure Monday to treat an abnormal heart rhythm.
According to a Bruins press release from team internist Dr. David Finn, the 20-year-old McAvoy first reported suffering heart palpitations during a Nov. 26 game. He was subsequently diagnosed with supraventricular tachycardia (SVT), which is not considered dangerous.

The Bruins medical team cleared him to continue playing, and he had played through Saturday's game.
On Monday, McAvoy underwent a procedure known as an ablation, which kills the cells responsible for the abnormal heart rate. According to the Bruins, McAvoy's expected recovery time is two weeks.
The Bruins' first-round pick (No. 14 overall) in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft, McAvoy made his NHL debut this season. He is tied for fourth on the team with 20 assists, and has 25 points.
