Broncos claim controversial last-gasp win over Bulldogs

The Bulldogs led with six minutes remaining, but the two sides looked to be heading for extra-time after a converted Joe Ofahengaue try made it 20-20 apiece with five minutes remaining.

There was still time for one final twist in a contest which swung one way and the other when Mbye was sent to the sin bin for pushing Darius Boyd as he attempted to race onto James Roberts' high kick, presenting Jamayne Isaako with a simple chance to win it from the tee.

Although Mbye undoubtedly made contact with Boyd's shoulder, the Bulldogs were aggrieved that the touch was only minimal and the Broncos captain looked unlikely to touch down, as Will Hopoate was on hand to palm the ball out of play.

Debutant Rhyse Martin put the Bulldogs in front with an early try, but Brisbane were level after the lively Boyd whipped a superb pass out wide for Corey Oates to finish.

Canterbury held a 14-6 advantage at the break, Marcelo Montoya picking up the loose ball when Boyd slipped and laid a try on for Matt Frawley, Mbye converting after slotting over a penalty.

Alex Glenn surged through a gap to score a second try for Wayne Bennett's side and Isaako brought them level with a penalty, only for Kerrod Holland to go under the posts following a great break from Hopoate and another slip - this time from Jack Bird.
