Badosa follows Sabalenka and Gauff out of Qatar Open

Paula Badosa became the latest seed to crash out of the Qatar Open as she went down to Amanda Anisimova in straight sets on Tuesday.
Several big names have already exited the WTA-1000 event in Doha, with world number one Aryna Sabalenka, 2023 US Open champion Coco Gauff and Olympic gold medallist Qinwen Zheng all going out on Tuesday.
Badosa joined them after losing 6-4 6-3 to the United States' Anisimova, who is into the competition's last 16 for the first time since 2020.
Anisimova's power proved decisive on the longer points as she thrashed the ball from side to side, with Badosa only managing to convert two of the 10 break points she forced.
Anisimova, meanwhile, took four of her 13 opportunities – two in each set – and capped her triumph with an unreturnable serve on match point.
She will now face 2021 US Open runner-up Leylah Fernandez – who upset ninth seed Emma Navarro on Monday – for a place in the quarter-finals.

Data Debrief: Big scalp for Anisimova
Anisimova's victory improved her head-to-head record over Badosa to 2-0, as the 2025 Australian Open semi-finalist became her ninth top-10 scalp.
She now has as many top-10 wins in 2025 as in the last two seasons combined (one), with her last such victory coming against Sabalenka at the 2024 Canadian Open.
Of her nine victories over top-10 ranked players, seven have now come in straight sets.
