Audio from Aric Almirola's fiery crash at Kansas released
After a fiery wreck at Kansas Speedway on Saturday night, Aric Almirola could be heard screaming on the team's radio, telling his crew his back was in severe pain.
What Almirola didn't know was he just suffered a compression fracture in the T5 vertebra in the crash involving Danica Patrick and Joey Logano on Lap 199 of the 267-lap Go Bowling 400. Logano’s damaged car veered into Patrick, sending them both into the wall. Almirola, about 10 cars back, was unable to stop and hit Logano’s car violently in Turn 2.
Almirola had to be cut out of his car and was airlifted to the University of Kansas Medical Center, where he was held overnight into Sunday.

Austin Dillon: "Holy s— dude. That is bad, bad, bad. Oh gosh."
Trevor Bayne: “Gosh, I hope they’re OK, man. That was the hardest hit I’ve ever seen in my life."
Ty Dillon: “Oh my God. I hope everybody is OK. Holy s—."
Jamie McMurray: "(Almirola) was hauling ass when he hit them. He almost flipped. That’s unbelievable."
Logano: "It broke big whatever it was. Is Danica all right? She hit a freaking ton."
Ryan Blaney: "Man, Danica takes some of the hardest hits I’ve ever seen.”
