Asian Para Games: Two world records, seven gold for Malaysia
After two days without a gold medal to show for at the 2018 Asian Para Games, Malaysia came out flying on Tuesday as they bagged seven gold medals, in which two set new world records.
Ridzuan Puzi, who won gold at the 2016 Summer Paralympics, clocked 11.87s in the men's 100m T36 (cerebral palsy) to erase the previous record of 11.90s, which was set by Russia's Evgenii Shvetcov in the IPC World Paralympic Championship in Lyon, France in 2013.
"I want thank my coach, the Olympic Council of Malaysia, the National Sports Institute as well as my parents for their support and encouragement," he was quoted saying by Bernama.
Fellow Paralympian gold medalist Abdul Latif Romly also lived up to his top billing by clearing 7.64m, in the men's long jump T20 (learning disability) to rewrite his own record of 7.60m set in 2016.BREAKING: Ridzuan Puzi telah berjaya memenangi Emas 100m Men T36 dengan catatan masa 11.87s yang juga merupakan rekod baru dunia!#KamiLuarBiasa #SpiritInMotion pic.twitter.com/HnExygDIz5— MISIM Di #AsianParaGames2018 (@MISIM_MY) October 9, 2018
