Tan Cheong Min narrowly missed out on winning a wushu medal at the 2018 Asian Games after finishing fourth overall in the women's nanquan and nandao combined event on Monday.

Tan, who turned 20 on the same day, was in a good position to win Malaysia's second medal after scoring 9.71 points in nanquan a day earlier, behind only China's Tang Lu (9.75).

However, in the nandao event, she made a slight mistake and earned just 9.44 points.

Her total points of 19.15 saw her finish behind Tang (19.49), Uzbekistan's Darya Latisheva (19.27) and Hong Kong's Yuen Ka Ying (19.27).

"This is my first time participating at the Asian Games, so my experience was lacking, but I will be more focused in training and perform better in the future," she told Astro Arena.

"Despite not winning a medal, I am satisfied and very proud of my result.

"Thank you to my parents for being here and showing their support for me."
