The Malaysia women’s squash team sealed their third gold medal in four Asian Games editions after emerging victorious in Hangzhou, China, on Saturday.

Malaysia, the most successful squash nation in Asian Games history, missed out on the women’s team gold medal five years ago in Indonesia, having won it in 2010 and 2014.

The national team did not have the best of start as Rachel Arnold fell 2-3 to Tong Tsz Wing in the opening match.

However, S. Sivasangari managed to make quick work of Ho Tze Lok, who was part of the triumphant Hong Kong women’s squad in the 2018 edition, and win 3-0 to take the final into a deciding match.

Rising star Aifa Azman then defeated Chan Sin Yuk to secure the gold medal, which was the national contingent’s third overall in Hangzhou.

Meanwhile, their men's team counterparts unfortunately failed to defend their 2018 Asian Games gold medal.

The team of Addeen Idrakie, Ng Eain Yow, Syafiq Kamal and Ivan Yuen had to settle for bronze after losing to India in the semi-finals.
