Amir Khan might not have gotten the result he had hoped for in his last match at ONE: KING OF THE JUNGLE on 28 February, but he is still focused on sharpening his striking skills.

The Singaporean lightweight did not have much time to flash his knockout power, as he was submitted early in the first round by ONE Warrior Series standout Kimihiro Eto.

“Whatever happens, I’m still going to stick to my bread and butter,” he said. “Striking is second nature to me.”

The Evolve representative has not lost sight of his goal to reclaim his role as one of the division’s premier finishers.

Khan believes the first step to getting back on track is to be patient and keep faith in the process.

“Everybody’s journey is different. After a loss, it can be hard to not compare and wonder why this person could do this and I couldn’t,” he said.

“But everyone is tested a different way. Sometimes, things don’t go your way and it’s important to also understand that.”

Even with no injuries and the best training camp experience, Khan could not get the victory, which left him stumped.

However, the 25-year-old quickly regained his senses and threw himself back into training with a fresh mindset.

“Things can still go wrong even if you are prepared. It’s a part of life and the only thing I can do is react to it in a good way,” he offered.

“My mind has to be mentally strong, and I have to accept the loss and just move on instead of giving up. Because if you do that, that’s when you truly fail.”

This resonates strongly with Khan, who has promised to be a positive role model for his son.

“I want to be the one who never gave up, tried to keep on the same path, and tried to achieve my goal as much as possible,” he said.

“Right now, I have to ignore all the critics and remind myself it’s my own personal journey, and you just have to try and find a way to come through.”
