In-form Phil Foden has set his sights on scoring more goals after he bagged a double in Manchester City's 6-0 win at Ipswich Town on Sunday.

Erling Haaland, Jeremy Doku, Mateo Kovacic and James McAtee were also on target as Pep Guardiola's side went five league games unbeaten to climb to fourth place in the Premier League table.

City's uptick in results has coincided with Foden's purple patch. The England international has scored more top-flight goals than any other player since the turn of the year (five).

He has also now scored in three successive Premier League outings for City for the first time since October 2022, with Foden describing the Citizens display at Portman Road as "probably the best this season."

"It's one of our best performances this year," Foden told Sky Sports. "In terms of all-round play, keeping possession at important times, and we defended well too.

"We are building momentum, keeping players fit is important. I put it down to people being in better shape and the team bonding better.

"When we score we are not rushing it. We are keeping possession and build-up play was important."

It has been a difficult campaign for Foden, who failed to score in his first 11 league games of the season.

The City midfielder hit a career-best 19 goals and eight assists during the 2023-24 title-winning campaign. Sunday was also the first time he had scored in three straight league matches since October 2022.

Foden netted to seal City's 4-1 win against West Ham on 4 January and also struck twice in their 2-2 draw at Brentford on Tuesday.

The England international said his barren run in front of goal has been a learning experience.

"I learned everything from it [poor form]," Foden said.

"It is good to see me back scoring goals with a smile on my face and enjoying football. I want to keep going and adding to that. You never know what can happen. The aim is to stay in the top four."

City will next travel to face Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League next Wednesday before welcoming Chelsea in the league at the weekend.
