Martin Odegaard said Arsenal can hit another gear as they look to close the gap to Premier League leaders Liverpool.

Mikel Arteta's Arsenal, who have collected 47 points from 23 matches and sit second, are set to face reigning champions Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

And captain Odegaard is hopeful his team can pull off a strong finish to the season by challenging Arne Slot's Reds for the title, after finishing two points behind City last time around.

"For the team, we’re in a good position," Odegaard told The Mirror.

"But still I feel like we have another gear, another step that we can take, and hopefully we can hit that top form now until the end of the season.

"It was the same last year. We really hit top form towards the end of the season. Hopefully, we can do that again and finish with a good run."

Arsenal are currently unbeaten in 13 Premier League matches (W8 D5) and have won the most points of any side from MD11 onwards (29).

The Gunners have never had a longer unbeaten run under Arteta, last going 14 without defeat between August and December 2018 under then-boss Unai Emery.

The 26-year-old Norway international also said he hopes to contribute more goals for his team during the coming months.

"[Goals have] been something that I haven't been good enough with this season," he said.

Odegaard bagged 15 goals and seven assists during the 2022-23 Premier League season, while he had eight goals and 10 assists last campaign.

However, he has only managed one goal and three assists in the competition this term, which was marred by an ankle injury.

"I feel like I've been in enough situations and created a lot for others, but I haven't been clinical enough with the finishing," he said.

"So that's something that I really want to step up towards the end of the season."
