Ivan Toney labelled Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk as "too nice" to instill fear in him.

In an interview with InchByInch, the Brentford star, who was recently called up by England for the first time, named his five-a-side dream team.

Despite including the Netherlands international in his team, the 26-year-old said he was more scared of other defenders.

"There [are] scarier defenders out there, they look scarier as well."

"[Van Dijk] doesn’t look scary, he’s too nice!" said Toney.

Other players in Toney's team were former Barcelona forward Sergio Aguero, Brentford team-mate Frank Onyeka, and Manchester City stars Ederson and Kevin De Bruyne.

Toney, a self-professed Liverpool fan, had previously hailed Van Dijk as one of the best defenders in the world.

"You could tell he was one of the best defenders in the world: his swagger, his aura and persona on the pitch.

"Being a Liverpool fan, it was enjoyable coming up against him," he told The Times last November.
