Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim (TMJ) announced on Thursday that he would take a step back from Malaysian Super League champions Johor Darul Ta'zim's (JDT).

While remaining as the Southern Tigers' owner, the Crown Prince of Johor would be less involved in their day-to-day operations.

"Due to my other responsibilities and commitments, I have decided to take a step back and hand over the control of JDT FC to the top management of the club.

"I wish the club and everyone all the best," read an official statement from the club.

Since taking control over the club in 2012, TMJ had a very hands-on approach and made all key decisions.

He was instrumental in their most successful period, including winning eight straight league titles, lifting the AFC Cup in 2015 and becoming the first Malaysian team to reach the AFC Champions League knockout stage this year.
