As part of Terengganu Football Association's restructuring plan, T-Team have been rebranded as Terengganu II and will compete in the 2018 Malaysian Premier League next season.

Meanwhile, Terengganu will be the state's only representative in the Malaysian Super League.

The decision was announced by president Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman during Terengganu FA's annual congress in Kuala Terengganu on Tuesday.

He cited the increasing cost of running T-Team as a key factor behind the decision.

"T-Team's expenditure during their formation year was RM3m, but it has since increased, reaching RM12m last season," he said.

"Besides being a cost-saving measure, I am confident that the restructuring will strengthen the state as a whole to be more dominant in local football."

Irfan Bakti Abu Salim will be in charge of the Super League side, while a meeting will soon be held with current T-Team head coach Rahmad Darmawan to decide on his future.

The restructuring process also saw the state's President Cup, Youth Cup and U-17 squads being renamed Terengganu III, IV and V respectively.
