Napoli have confirmed they have come to an agreement to terminate defender Mario Rui's contract at the club with immediate effect.
Rui spent the 2017-18 season on loan from Roma before making his move to Naples permanent the following year, going on to make 227 appearances in all competitions.
He scored three times, the last of which came in a 2-1 win over SPAL in 2019, while also laying on 26 assists during his time at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.
The Portuguese left-back appeared 22 times during Napoli's Scudetto winning season back in 2022-23, while also winning the Coppa Italia four years ago.
But since Antonio Conte's arrival in Naples ahead of the new campaign, Rui has not featured in any of Napoli's fixtures this season as they sit second in the Serie A standings.
The 33-year-old had only put pen to paper on fresh terms with the club last year, signing a contract extension that would keep him with Gli Azzurri until June 2026.
"SSC Napoli and Mario Rui Silva Duarte can confirm that the player's contract has been terminated by mutual consent as of 30 December 2024," Napoli said in a statement.
"The club would like to thank Mario Rui for his commitment to the Napoli cause over the years and wish him all the best for the next stage of his career."
