Nobody is being serious - Campbell unhappy with anti-racism efforts
Following several reports of racist incidents involving footballers, former Arsenal and Everton forward Kevin Campbell insisted not enough is being done to eradicate racism in football.
Racism hit English football again last week with at least three incidents being reported to authorities, including one involving Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha.
In December, Manchester City star Raheem Sterling was allegedly the victim of racist abuse from Chelsea fans during his side's 2-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge, and a banana was thrown at Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang during Arsenal's derby win over Tottenham.
It did not only happen in England, though, as recently Juventus teenager Moise Kean was racially abused by Cagliari fans and several England players were targeted in their 5-1 win in Montenengro.
During an appearance as an Astro Supersport guest pundit alongside Jeremie Aliadiere for Everton's 1-0 win over Arsenal on Sunday, Campbell highlighted the issue.
"When I was a kid coming up, it was around. When I became a footballer, it was around," he said.
"Now, here I am, with my son [Tyrese] in the game, and we are still talking about it. It's lip service and nonsense.
"I have been saying it since I went to my first game when I was seven years old. I'm 49 now and it is a long time to be dealing with the same rhetoric and stuff about racism."
Campbell urged everyone, from football authorities to supporters, to step up to the plate to help tackle the issue.
"Kick It Out and Show Racism the Red Card are bodies looking to educate people, but they have never been fully funded, so what does that tell you? Nobody is being serious about it.
"Football cannot be tasked with cleaning up the society, but inside a football stadium, it should be a no-racism zone.
"Fans have to take some responsibilities on that as well because if someone racially abuses people around you, you have to speak up," he added.
