Lukas Nmecha has agreed to join Leeds once his contract with Wolfsburg expires on June 30.

The 26-year-old will become Leeds' first signing of the summer transfer as Daniel Farke looks to improve his squad following the Whites' promotion back to the Premier League.

Nmecha started his career with Manchester City and had loan spells with Preston North End, Wolfsburg, Middlesbrough, and Anderlecht.

He then joined Wolfsburg on a permanent deal in 2021, playing 73 times for the German club in league and cup matches.

Nmecha is excited to return to the Premier League and get started with his new club.

“It's just a great challenge and I'm really excited to get to know the team,” Nmecha told LUTV.

“I've spoken with the manager many times and I'm excited to play that style of football that they played in the Championship, even in the Premier League.

“I saw that there was dominance last season in terms of possession and the goals. I'm an attacking player, so obviously that's exciting for me.

“Of course, in the Premier League, there's some big boys in there where you can't play like that all the time, but I think the idea of the manager is to play good football, possession football, and that's what I'm used to and what I love doing.

“I wish we could get going now, but we still have a few weeks of pre-pre-season, getting the runs in and all that! But, I just can't wait to start training now.”

Due to a hamstring injury and adductor pain, Nmecha only played 19 league games last season and started just three.

When compared to the league performance of Leeds’ attackers Joel Piroe, Daniel James, and Wilfried Gnonto from last season, Nmecha has the second-best shot conversion rate (15%) and best minutes per goal ratio (152 minutes).

Nmecha was the only one of the four players to underperform his expected goals in the league, however, scoring three times from an xG of 4.5, though he played significantly fewer minutes than his new Leeds team-mates.

He has represented Germany seven times at senior level but played for both them and England at youth level.

Nmecha won the Under-19 Euros with England in 2017, scoring the winner in the final against Portugal.

After electing to represent Germany, he then won the Under-21 Euros in 2021, finishing as the tournament's top scorer with four goals.
