Akhyar Rashid emerged as Kedah's hero with a 85th-minute strike to grab a 1-0 win over PKNP on Sunday.

The Malaysia U-23 international was in the right place to secure the Red Eagles' first win of the 2018 unifi Malaysian Super League season, after losing 2-1 to JDT and 3-1 to Perak in their last two matches.

Former Selangor winger Andik Vermansah, who were given a start on his debut for Kedah, impressively ran more than half the length of the pitch to put a low cross into the path of Pablo Pallares.

The Spaniard's effort was denied by the PKNP goalkeeper, but the rebound luckily fell to Akhyar to strike the ball into the goal.

A late goal was also desired by Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) in their continued match against Kuala Lumpur, but it did not come as they lost 1-0.

The defending champions, who had to wait 18 hours to play the remaining 34 minutes of yesterday's match after it was called off due to bad weather, were unable to muster a response to Paulo Josue's goal.

In the last kick-off of the third gameweek, Melaka United bounced back from their 4-1 midweek loss to Selangor with a 3-0 home win against Negeri Sembilan in the Naning Derby.

Belarusian forward Yahor Zubovich took full advantage of two mistakes made by goalkeeper Saiful Amar Sudar to give the Hang Tuah side a 2-0 lead late in the first half, before R. Gopinathan wrapped the victory in the 70th minute.
