Malaysia emerged as champions of the AFF U-19 Youth Championship for the first time in Surabaya, Indonesia, on Saturday.

The young national squad, who had never won the trophy and finished as runners-up five times, beat Myanmar 4-3 in the dramatic final at the Gelora Delta Sidoarjo Stadium.

Bojan Hodak's boys led 2-0 from goals scored by Awang Muhammad Faiz Hazziq as early as in the third minute and Nik Akif Syahiran Nik Mat in the 18th minute.

Myanmar, however, managed to turn the game around with three quick goals in eight minutes thanks to Win Naing Tun's brace and Myat Kaung Khant's effort before the end of the first half.

Shivan Pillay Asokan made it 3-3 in the 75th minute before Nik Akif Syahiran emerged as his side's hero with an injury-time winner.
