With five goals to his name, Malaysia U-16 forward Luqman Hakim ended the 2018 AFC U-16 Championship as the top goal-scorer.

The 16-year-old scored as many goals as Australia's Noah Botic and Japan's Shoji Toyama but walked away with the top gong by virtue of playing fewer games.

He scored four goals in a 6-2 thrashing of Tajikistan, and grabbed one before he was sent off in a 4-2 defeat to Thailand.

Luqman's suspension for a crucial final group match against Japan left Malaysia toothless upfront as they lost 2-0.

Past winners of the AFC U-16 Championship Golden Boot included Red Bull Salzburg forward Takumi Minamino, HSV forward Hwang Hee-chan, Hellas Verona winger Lee Seung-woo, and Club Brugge striker Kaveh Rezaei.

Japan won the tournament for the third time, and the first since 2008, after beating Tajikistan 1-0 in the final thanks to Jun Nishikawa's goal at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium on Sunday.
