Liverpool have appointed former Wales head coach Rob Page to lead their under-21 team.

Page spent four years in charge of Wales after serving as an assistant to Ryan Giggs, departing last June after they failed to qualify for Euro 2024.

He led Wales to their first World Cup since 1958 two years earlier, but they only took one point from three group-stage games at Qatar 2022, drawing 1-1 with the United States but losing 2-0 to Iran and 3-0 to England.

Page will now succeed Barry Lewtas, who spent five years at the helm of Liverpool Under-21s before stepping down earlier this month.

Alex Inglethorpe, Liverpool's academy director, told the club's website: "Rob brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience to a key role as young players look to bridge that gap from academy prospect to first-team footballers.

"His recent achievements in guiding Wales to the last 16 at Euro 2020 before qualifying for the 2022 World Cup speak for themselves.

"But perhaps less heralded is the work that took place during his time in charge of the national team, which saw numerous pathway players make it into the senior squad."

Liverpool finished 16th in the 26-team Premier League 2 table in 2024-25, with 27 points from 20 matches.
