Benjamin Henrichs will be out for several months after requiring surgery for an Achilles tendon rupture suffered in Friday's 5-1 hammering by Bayern Munich.

The RB Leipzig wing-back was carried off on a stretcher against Bayern after sustaining a concerning injury to his right foot.

Henrichs will subsequently go under the knife in Munich on Monday, signalling a significant blow for fourth-placed Leipzig heading into the mid-season break.

"The defender underwent examinations on Saturday to confirm the diagnosis," Leipzig posted on social media. "Come back stronger, Benny!"

The 27-year-old vowed to bounce back after facing the first serious injury of his blossoming career.

"That loud bang, that pain, I wouldn't wish that on anyone... But I know for sure that I can rely on God," he wrote on Instagram.

"I'm having surgery... I hope everything goes well."

Henrichs has impressed for Leipzig this term, making the most tackles for his club in Bundesliga action (32) while featuring in all 15 top-flight games.

Marco Rose's side are already without Netherlands playmaker Xavi Simons and defender Castello Lukeba due to injury, with Henrichs the next addition to that list.
