Landon Donovan considering bid for U.S. soccer presidency

Landon Donovan, who starred for the U.S. soccer team for a decade and a half, is seriously considering running for U.S. Soccer president, SI.com reports.
Sunil Gulati has held the position since 2006, and while he has not confirmed plans to seek re-election in February, indications are that he will. With the U.S. failing to qualify for the 2018 World Cup, Gulati is under fire and being encouraged to step down by many among the nation’s soccer community.
Gulati has run unopposed in the last three elections but is expected to face plenty of competition at the 2018 election in February.

Per the SI report, Donovan has been “asked by a number of respected figures in American soccer to contemplate running.”
While Donovan did not comment, we’ll know his intentions by Dec. 10, when nominations for presidential candidates are due.
