A knee injury kept Fabinho out of Liverpool's squad to face Manchester United, who left Paul Pogba on the bench.

Fabinho sustained the knock during Liverpool's Champions League win at Atletico Madrid in midweek.

It is not thought to be a long-term issue but was serious enough to see him miss the clash at Old Trafford.

Ibrahima Konate and Diogo Jota came into Jurgen Klopp's starting XI, with Joel Matip and Sadio Mane left on the bench.

Named among the substitutes for United was midfielder Pogba as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made three changes to the side that lost at Leicester City last week.

Marcus Rashford started up front while Fred and Scott McTominay were deployed in midfield and Bruno Fernandes was declared fit to play having sustained a knock in United's Champions League comeback against Atalanta.
