Ong Kim Swee's contract as Malaysia Under-22 head coach will not be renewed when it expires at the end of the year.

It was confirmed by Football Association of Malaysia secretary-general Stuart Ramalingam when he was contacted by Bernama on Thursday.

The news came just a day after Ong's team were knocked out from the 2019 SEA Games with a 3-1 defeat to Cambodia in their final Group A match.

Ong took charge of the national youth team in 2010 and led them to a gold medal finish at the 2011 SEA Games.

He left his post once in 2014 to manage the national senior team before being reinstated in 2017, guiding the young Tigers to a SEA Games silver medal on home soil in the same year.

His second stint also saw Malaysia qualify for the AFC U-23 Championship for the first time and reach the 2018 Asian Games knockout stage.
