The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) announced the death of national head coach Tan Cheng Hoe's father on Friday.

According to information shared with the media, Tan Chooi Siak passed away in Alor Setar, Kedah, at the age of 95.

The personal tragedy unfortunately came on the eve of the Harimau Malaya's crucial FIFA World Cup qualifying game against Vietnam at the Al-Maktoum Stadium in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Malaysia need to beat Park Hang-seo's team to stand a chance of finishing in the top two of Group G and qualifying for the next FIFA World Cup qualifying stage.
Prior to the announcement of his father's death, Tan spoke to Astro Arena on his optimism on getting the desired result against Vietnam.
