The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) issued an official statement following Thursday's post-match incident involving the national teams of Malaysia and Indonesia in the semi-finals of the AFF U-19 Youth Championship.

Objects were hurled at the Malaysia U-19 players at the Gelora Delta Sidoarjo Stadium after defeating the host nation in the match, obstructing them from exiting the pitch.

In the statement issued by Hamidin Amin, Secretary General of the FAM, he confirmed that no players or officials were injured.

"Based on the information received, it was found that a handful of Indonesian fans threw bottles and stones from the stands towards the direction of our U-19 national players after the match while they were attempting to enter the tunnel to their dressing room," he was quoted saying in the statement.

"The chaos that took place led to an hour-long delay of the U-19 national squad’s departure from the stadium to their hotel.

"However, the chaos was successfully controlled by the authorities and no injuries were sustained by our U-19 national players and team officials.

"Immediately after the incident, I contacted the President of the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI), Joko Driyono, who promised to increase the level of safety for our U-19 national squad when they undergo their training session later today and also at their hotel."

Hamidin also said that Joko had issued an apology for the incident, and he had explained the issue to Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, Malaysian Minister of Youth and Sports.

"As for myself and FAM, we will wait for the report from the Match Commissioner (MC) and the referee before taking any further actions on this incident," he added.
